From The Trust Economy — A Second Great Renaissance
When you explore the writing style of David Drillick in this treasure of stories, you will find it wrapped around one of the most important crossroads of history we humans are facing today in the twenty-first century.
My experiences as a business professional over the decades, in many diverse fields, led me to hunt for and explore the best ways of reaching my customers and clients with the products and services I could provide.
The last job in my career was as a radio station manager. I remember our meetings with the production team each week, making sure our clients' commercials were being placed, while at the same time being approached by program syndicators from across the United States offering their nationally known stars, programs, and news.
I was told at that time that our nation's internet infrastructure was going to become seamless and cost-effective, provide quality sound, and help cut staffing.
That job, and my new understanding of what was happening, led me and my wife into the favorite business of my career. We started a publishing company.
We built a media company called Spectrum Media Group, initially publishing a magazine that grew to 96 full-color pages. It provided expert information and advice from some of the best schools, doctors, hospitals, and healthcare specialists, along with great entertainment partners such as Disney and Universal, throughout the Tampa Bay region and beyond.
At the same time, the technology of the internet was becoming a growing force in media communications. Our team of editors, writers, and designers expanded into a website—then often called a web channel—and email newsletters for our readers and media partners. That expansion grew into broadcasting, including a radio show, as well as weekly events in six locations targeted toward families with children.
As a company, we were top-heavy, as were many print companies. Eventually, like most print publishers, we came to realize that the world was quickly moving into the internet world, with Amazon, Audible, and a zillion others.
I had watched one technological change reshape an industry and a business I loved.
That experience is part of what I brought with me when I read The Trust Economy.
David is able to set the stage seamlessly with a magical story format that is simple and easily understood. You will also absolutely enjoy the classic etched artwork that is timeless. He takes us through where we have been, where we are, and where we could dream of being—as individuals and, yes, as businesses.
I hope you will explore this book as I have. I think you will find yourself enthusiastically enchanted and excited by the simple and fun way David tells the story, while exploring some very important questions about the future ahead of us.
My hope is that he will continue to write more to help us across this crossroads as the world changes into its next cycle.
