Why does a book about the future look so old?

The Trust Economy explores a possible future shaped by artificial intelligence, but its visual language comes from an earlier age of exploration.

There is a reason for that.

This book is not intended as prophecy. Think of it instead as the report of an explorer returning from an expedition—maps unrolled, observations gathered, possibilities discovered, and unanswered questions still marked at the edges.

The engravings, warm paper, classical typography, and other visual elements deliberately recall the books and journals of nineteenth-century exploration. They frame a journey not into an unknown continent, but into a future whose outlines are only beginning to appear.

Some of what lies ahead can already be seen. Some must be inferred. Some paths may lead nowhere. Others may open into landscapes we have barely begun to imagine.

The Trust Economy is a record of one such expedition.
